Background

Engr. Dr. Paul Paulinus Akpan has been an academic staff of the university and polytechnic for over fifteen years. He has two PhDs and three master’s degrees in Civil Engineering specialties. He has published fifty-six articles in international journals, six textbooks, three book chapters, four laboratory manuals, and four monograms, and has presented thirty-nine articles at international conferences. He has twenty-four creative innovations and was privileged to exhibit most of them in the first and second Nigeria national exhibitions held at Abuja where his institution emerged as second best in the whole country. He is registered with and sustains thirteen professional memberships and is a peer reviewer of nine international journals in the US, UK, and other parts of the world including the International Water Association, London.   He is also a certified NEBORSH and OSHA safety professional, and a lead auditor in quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety management systems, ISO9001:2015, ISO14001:2015, and ISO45001:2018 respectively.

He specializes in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical and Geo-environmental Engineering, Hydraulics Structures, Advanced Hydraulics and Hydrology, Occupational Health, Safety and Environment. 

He has had several academic and national awards amongst which are the Africa International Achievers Award, 2017, Cum Laude Honors, PhD In Civil Engineering with A Major in Geotechnical Engineering 2015/2016 Session, AIU, USA, Cum Laude Honors, Master of Science In Civil Engineering with A Major in Geotechnical Engineering 2013/2014 Session, AIU, USA, and best-graduating student of the year 2003/2004 academic session, Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, Nigeria, West-Africa.

He belongs to several professional bodies, including Fellow, Nigerian Association Of Technologists in Engineering (COREN), Fellow Institute of Policy Management and Development(FIPMD), Member, the International Water Association (MIWA), Member, the Society Of Toxicology (MSOT), Member, Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (MISPON), Member, National Registry of Environmental Professionals(MREP), Member, Nigerian Society of Safety Engineers (MNSSE), Member, West Africa Society of Toxicology (MWASOT). COREN Registered Member, Corporate Member, The Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE-COREN), Corporate Member, Nigerian Association of Technologist In Engineering (MNATE-COREN), Corporate Member, International Project Manager Professional (MIPMP), Corporate Member, Waste Management Association of Nigeria (WAMASON) He is currently an Associate Professor of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, and the acting head of department, Civil and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi.
